Our Tart Cherry jam is made from Montmorency cherries that derive their name from the Montmorency Valley of France. Developed before the 17th century they have been cultivated in the US since the early 19th century. They are traditionally used as pie cherries because of their tart and somewhat sour flavor. We think the combination is perfect for jam, giving it a complex flavor that complements many foods. Our favorite use is mixing into plain yogurt. The chewy bits of cherry contrast with the smooth somewhat sour consistency of the yogurt. Reported health benefits of tart cherries include treating gout, early hypertension, and improvement in sleep quality and duration. We just like the taste!
